It is not always necessary to submit a list of references with your resume, and unless particularly asked to do so I would suggest you don't. It is just another piece of paper to be handles and lost! If you are asked for a second interview it is possible you will also be asked for references at that time.

Who can you ask to give you a reference? Firstly you need to know what type of reference is being asked for. Is it a personal reference or an employment reference? You could well be asked for both.

Never assume that somebody will write you a reference without checking first. To assume is rude and might result in a reference which is less flattering than you would have liked!

Given that all the above is complied with, your reference page should look something like this:
