Job Interview Thank You Letters

It's a moot point whether you should send a thank you letter after a job interview or not. On balance, it can do no harm and it does show some commitment to the potential employment, or to put it another way, it demonstrates that the sender is not indifferent towards the possibility of being offered the job.

So, if you make the decision to send a thank you note, what form should it take? There are a number of possibilities and you should have an indication of which type would be most suitable having met your interviewers previously at your job interview.

Letter
Email
Fax
Phone call

Only you will know which is best, but if there is any doubt in your mind, send only a letter which can never be wrong. The others do have risks attached! If you are going to send a letter then you also need to consider whether it should be hand written or typed. Think about what the business does, and therefore what would make the better impression. And check your spelling!

The important thing is that if you are going to write a letter, it needs to be written the day of your interview. If you write it a week later, it will do more harm than good. The letter must be polite but NOT fawning.
